The Delhi High Court on Wednesday slammed Twitter over its non-compliance with the new IT Rules 2021 and gave it one week's time to file a "better affidavit".

Before adjourning the matter to August 6, the court said the affidavit must clearly outline details of persons who have been appointed as Chief Compliance Officer and Redressal officer.

The affidavit will also list reasons as to why a nodal contact person had not been appointed to date and by what time will he be appointed.

During the hearing, Twitter's counsel Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya updated that the court had appointed a Resident Grievance Officer and Chief Compliance Officer and that it was in the process of appointing a Nodal Contact Person through a third party contractor.

However, Justice Rekha Palli took objection to the use of the terminology 'contingent worker' in Twitter's affidavit. She stated that it sounded as though there was a contingency.

The judge also told Twitter that if the company wants to comply with the Information Technology Rules, 2021, it should do it wholeheartedly.
