The Delhi High Court on Wednesday stated that the petition filed by Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla against the rollout of 5G wireless network for mobile broadband in India was defective and done for media publicity.

The court questioned the actress for directly approaching the court rather than the government.

"This seems to be a publicity stunt. Why have you not approached the central government before coming to us? Has the government refused to act on the issue? How has the government denied you any right," the court asked, adding, "Where is the cause of action for coming to court? If they take a decision against you, you can come. Nobody can straight away come to the court," the judge remarked.

In her petition, Chawla had contended that the 5G rollout in India would harm public health, as the radiation that it emits will be extremely harmful and injurious to the health and safety of the people.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta countered, stating that the lawsuit was completely frivolous considering that 5G is not prohibited by law.

The court has reserved its judgement on whether the petition should be entertained.
