Border Roads Organization is all set for another landmark achievement by constructing the highest tunnel in the world at an altitude of over 13000 feet by the year 2022, near Sela Pass in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The tunnel is planned to bypass the treacherous Sela Pass and would be completed by June 2022, an official told Asianet Newsable

After its completion, the travel time for troops till the Line of Actual Control would reduce by an hour from Tezpur-based Indian Army's Gajraj Corps.

In October last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh, which is the longest tunnel in the world located above 10,000 feet.

Commemorating the brave hearts who laid down their lives in ensuring the territorial integrity of the country, BRO Director General Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry travelled almost 500 km by road and carried out the first blasting at the south portal of the tunnel.

For over six decades, the BRO has been connecting places and people by constructing roads, bridges, airfields and tunnels in the most inhospitable terrain under adverse climatic conditions to meet the requirements of the security forces.
