PM Modi began work with the new Ministers, a day after Cabinet reshuffle. He interacted with Directors of centrally funded technical institutions like IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur and IISc Bangalore via video conference today. New Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was also present at the meeting.

This interaction is a part of PM Modi's personal efforts to ensure our education institutions further improve, sources said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday effected a major reshuffle and expansion of his council of ministers.

A day after 43 Ministers including 36 new faces were inducted into the Modi Cabinet, new Ministers have started taking charge today.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Kiren Rijiju, Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Danve Raosaheb Dadarao, Mansukh Mandaviya, Dr Bharati Pravin, Ramchandra Prasad Singh, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Meenakshi Lekhi, Anurag Thakur were some of the ministers who took charge early today. Those who were promoted include Hardeep Singh Puri, Kiren Rijiju and Anurag Thakur.

After bigwigs were dropped, the new Central government has got 30 Cabinet ministers, two Ministers of State with independent charges and 45 Ministers of States.

The expansion saw more representation to states which will go to the polls next year including Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat and are apparently aimed at infusing more young talent in the government.

While the representation of OBCs, SCs, and youth has gone up the average age of cabinet has come down. The changes were made days ahead of the monsoon session of parliament.

Forty-three ministers, including seven who were elevated as cabinet ministers, took the oath of office at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan held with protocols related to Covid-19.
