Covid alarm goes off in Supreme Court; 50% staff test positive

All Supreme Court benches which are scheduled to sit at 10:30 am will sit at 11:30 am, and those scheduled to sit at 11 am will sit at 12 noon in Supreme Court today, as sanitisation work continues in court premises.

The Covid situation in the Supreme Court has assumed worrying proportions with 50 per cent court staff getting infected by the virus.

All Supreme Court judges will conduct proceedings from their respective residences over video conference.

Sources said that the entire court premises, including courtrooms, are being sanitised.

In a statement, Additional Registrar-DEU announced that various benches will be sitting an hour later than their scheduled time.

"All the benches which are scheduled to sit at 10:30 am will sit at 11:30 am and those scheduled to sit at 11 am will sit at 12 noon in Supreme Court, today," the directive said.

India had on Sunday reported 1,70,195 new Covid-19 cases, an 11.6% jump from the previous day's tally of over 1.52 lakh cases. The number of Covid fatalities crossed 900 for the first time since October 10, with 903 fatalities being reported.
