Coronavirus: Tamil Nadu extends restrictions till Dec 31; Marina beach, UG classes to reopen

The lockdown restrictions due to Covid-19 have been extended in Tamil Nadu till December 31 with more relaxations in place. According to the Tamil Nadu government's notification, Marina beach will reopen on December 15 and classes for UG final year students will resume from December 7.

Chennai: Amid the rising number of coronavirus cases, the Palaniswamy-led Tamil Nadu government extended the lockdown till December 31 with more relaxations.

According to the Tamil Nadu government's notification, the classes for UG final year students in the state will resume from December 7.

The state government's notification said Marina beach will reopen on December 15. The swimming pools for sportsmen for their training will also reopen during this time.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government too extended the lockdown in containment zones till December 31. “The lockdown shall remain in force in the containment zones till December 31, 2020. Only essential activities will be allowed in the containment zones and there will be intensive house-to-house surveillance by surveillance teams formed for this purpose”, the state government said in a statement.

Earlier, the Union ministry of home affairs released a fresh set of guidelines for surveillance, containment and caution against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). The fresh norms will be effective from December 1, 2020 and will remain in place till December 31.

The MHA said only essential activities will be allowed in Containment Zones. Local, district, police and municipal authorities shall be responsible to ensure that prescribed measures are strictly followed and state/UT governments shall ensure accountability of concerned officers.
