The Delhi airport on Wednesday tweeted that it will start random Covid-19 testing of passengers arriving from states where high number of cases of the infection have been reported. But minutes later, the tweet was deleted.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport issued a passenger advisory on Wednesday saying "District Disaster Management Authorities shall conduct random Covid-19 testing of passengers coming from the states where the cases are increasing."

The Delhi government had earlier declared that random testing of coronavirus will be held across Delhi's airports, railway and bus stations.

The government had said safety measures for Covid should be rigorously observed in public places, especially in markets and malls.

Delhi's Covid tally surged to 6,60,611 total cases after 995 new infections were recorded in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry data this morning showed.

Yesterday, the centre, referring to spike in cases, said the situation in India is "going from bad to worse". "Trends show the virus is still very active just when we think we can control it, it sparks back," said VK Paul, chairman of the National Expert Committee on Vaccine Administration.
