Sagar Rana's bereaved parents have called for capital punishment to Sushil Kumar, urging the authorities to investigate the murder case involving the 2-time Olympic medalist properly. Sushil and his associates have been accused of murdering Sagar, a 23-year-old wrestler who used to train at the Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi.

Sagar Rana’s father Ashok hopes that his son will get justice and a lesson is taught.

“We are hoping for justice. Where did he go when he was absconding, who gave him shelter and most importantly the gangsters with whom he is connected to. He should be hanged so that people learn a lesson and think before killing his own pupil,” he said.

"The one who murdered my son does not deserve to be called a mentor. All the medals won by Sushil Kumar should be taken from him. We believe that police will investigate properly but Sushil will try to influence it by using his political links," Sagar Rana's mother was quoted, as saying in an interview before demanding to hang Sushil.

A day after Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar, along with his associate Ajay was arrested in Delhi, the Delhi Police said on Monday that its Crime Branch will investigate the Chhatrasal Stadium brawl case that led to the death of a 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankar.

Sushil Kumar has been currently sent to six days of police custody by a Delhi Court. The Delhi Police on Sunday informed a local court that the way in which Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar and his associates thrashed the victims in the Chhatrasal incident was "gruesome" and was done so that Kumar could "establish his terror" in the area.

On the intervening night of May 4-5, a quarrel had broken between wrestlers at Chhatrasal Stadium which quickly escalated after someone from the group fired shots. Following this, the Chhatrasal Stadium video also went viral on social media. The injured wrestlers had to be rushed to the Trauma Centre, Civil Lines, where one of the wrestlers, former junior national champion Sagar Rana succumbed to his injuries.

Notably, Sagar used to consider Sushil as his guru (coach) and was living in the property registered under the name of 2-time Olympian's wife.

Meanwhile, Sagar's maternal uncle expressed his disappointment over the lack of support from local politicians. "Haryana and the BJP government did not speak two words of condolence after the death of Sagar. Sagar was a kid from Haryana BJP president Prakash Dhankad's local area but even he did not call," he said.
