In an early morning shocker to former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's minister SP Velumani, officials from Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption raided his posh house in Coimbatore and 52 other locations in connection with graft charges against him.

According to the reports, the officials at present are conducting searches in Chennai, Coimbatore, Dindigul and Kancheepuram and other locations.

The raids were conducted as the leader when he was Minister of Local Administration between 2016 to 2021, amassed wealth and misused his position and also favoured his relatives in bagging several government contracts.

Officials simultaneously started search operations at all the locations at 7 am and raids are also happening at ex-Minister's close aides, relatives, and some government officials' residences who reportedly favoured Velumani.

It is said that he reportedly received cuts for school projects in Velur, Gudiyatham and other places. Discrepancies were also reportedly found in Civic work in Chennai city corporations and Coimbatore Municipal corporation as the tender norms were violated and Velumani allegedly took 8% commission to sanction projects.

This apart he also gave contracts to his own relatives and his brother which led to some contractors secretly tipoff officials and opposition parties about the alleged corruption.

Last week another AIADMK's ex-Minister MR Vijayabhaskar was raided by officials of DVAC which was condemned by AIADMK and accused DMK of involvement in vendetta politics.
