CBSE cancels Class 10 exam, postpones Class 12 exam

FollowThe Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed Class 12 exams and cancelled Class 10 exams.
For CBSE Class 12 boards, the situation will be reviewed on June 1 and revised dates will be announced thereafter. A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the Class 12 examinations.
Students of Class 10 will be promoted on the basis of internal assessment. Any candidate who is dissatisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams.Â
The decision comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and key officials.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated that the well being of the students has to be the top priority for the government. He also stated that the Centre would keep in mind the best interests of the students and ensure that their health is taken care of at the same time their academic interests are not harmed.Â
There had been a demand from leaders across the political spectrum and parents of students that board exams can be cancelled or deferred in the wake of an alarming surge in the number of Coronavirus cases in the country.
The CBSE had in December rescheduled the Class 10 and 12 board exams to May 2021, stating that any further delay in holding the examinations would have a bearing on the college admissions. But with the Covid-19 cases across the country mounting every day, the CBSE was forced to do a rethink. Many state boards have already postponed their examinations in the wake of the pandemic.
