Jammu: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday thwarted a narcotics smuggling attempt by Pakistani smugglers on Kathua  border in Jammu & Kashmir and seized about 27 kgs of heroin worth Rs 135 crore in the area of BOP Vinay.

One of the smugglers was killed during the operation.

During the wee hours of Wednesday, the border guarding troops noticed some suspicious movement along the international boundary with Pakistan and alerted its troops.

While entering the Indian territory, the Pakistani smugglers were challenged and fired upon.

“During search of the area, one dead body of a Pakistani Smuggler and 27 packets of Heroin were found near the fence,” BSF PRO Krishna Rao said.

The narcotics consignment has been estimated at Rs 135 crore.

“With this recovery, BSF Jammu has once again exposed the nefarious designs of Pakistani authorities to smuggle narcotics consignment to India through International border,” he said.

On January 23, the force had detected a 150-metre-long tunnel from Pakistan side in the same area.

The tunnel was meant to facilitate the terrorists entry from Pakistan for carrying out subversive activities.
