In a shot in the arm for the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh election, the party has registered a land victory in the UP Zila Panchayat chief election.  Party-backed candidates won 67 out of 75 seats.

Rival Samajwadi Party managed to win only five seats while its ally, the Rashtriya Lok Dal, won one seat.

Terming it as a victory for development and the rule of law in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the state government and the party workers for its victory.

The BJP won in Ayodhya, Mathura, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Mainpuri, Hapur, Auraiya, Barabanki, Kanpur, Kushinagar, Kaushambhi, Raibareli, and Siddharthnagar, among others.

The BJP also emerged victorious in Muzaffarnagar, Rampur, Bijnor, Shamli, and the once-Congress bastion of Amethi.

Thanking people for the poll success, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that victory is the result of the public welfare policies introduced by the Prime Minister.

"This is a manifestation of public confidence in the established good governance in Uttar Pradesh," he said.

BJP president JP Nadda said that the election victory was a clear message that the state's people are with the party's agenda of development and good governance.

UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh went on to assert, "We will win the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections as well."

Chairpersons of 22 district panchayats of the state were elected unopposed on June 29. Out of the 22 seats, BJP won 21 while the Samajwadi Party bagged one. Elections for district panchayat chiefs are not held on a party basis, but candidates enjoy the backing of various parties.
