'Gujarat is BJP's bastion': PM Modi, Amit Shah thank voters after local body election sweep

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked the voters of Gujarat for the resounding victory in the local body elections.

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Modi said that the election results clearly show the unwavering faith that people have towards politics of development and good governance. 

 

Calling the victory a special one, the prime minister said considering that the party has been serving the state for over two decades to record such a phenomenal win is noteworthy. 

"It is heartening to see widespread support from all sections of society, particularly the youth of Gujarat towards BJP," he said.

 

The BJP swept through the Gujarat local body elections winning 449 seats followed by 44 seats for Congress, 19 for AAP, 3 for BSP and 1 independent till the filing of this report.

Polling for 576 seats in Ahmedabad and five other civic corporations was held on February 21.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the local body election results had proved that Gujarat is a BJP bastion. 

"Gujarat has supported BJP with open hearts again. The opposition is trying to confuse people on Farmers and Covid but People have trusted Modiji again," he said.
