Bengaluru: Zomato delivery agent who assaulted woman arrested, company apologies to victim
A case has been filed with Electronic City police station in Bengaluru and the delivery man has been arrested.
FollowBengaluru: The city police have arrested a Zomato delivery boy who assaulted a woman while delivering food to her in Bengaluru.
The accused Zomato agent identified as Kamraj assaulted the woman and broke her nasal bone after she complained of a delayed food delivery order.
Bengaluru DCP (South East) Joshi Srinath confirmed the arrest of the accused.
The woman, Hitesha Chandranee, a city-based model and makeup artist, had taken to Twitter air her woes, and tagged the city police. The police then asked her to provide the area details to assist her further.
"We deeply regret this incident and apologise to Hitesha for this traumatic experience. We are in touch with her and are providing our complete support through the necessary medical care and investigation. Meanwhile, we have delisted the delivery partner from our platform," Zomato said in the statement.
The food-delivery app's official handle on Twitter responded to her video that a "local representative shall be in touch with you shortly to help you with the police investigation..."
Zomato reacted to her Twitter post, saying, "We can assure you this is not the experience our delivery universe stands for. Our local representative shall be in touch with you shortly to help you with the police investigation along with assistance on the medical care required."
However, the accused alleged that it was Chandranee who attacked him first and he retaliated. The woman said that she suffered a nasal bone fracture. She added, "I was given high power antibiotics and painkillers because of which I am able to talk. I am unable to talk. My eyes water and my nose bleeds as soon as I start talking. "
