Bengaluru Riots: CCB nabs accused Sampath Raj's close aide AR Zakir

After remaining elusive for weeks, former BBMP corporator AR Zakir was nabbed by Central Crime Branch Bengaluru in connection with Bengaluru violence. Zakir is said to be a close aide of riot conspirator ex-Mayor Sampath Raj.

Bengaluru: In a significant breakthrough in Bengaluru riots case, Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru officials nabbed former corporator AR Zakir. 

His arrest comes exactly a week after ex-Mayor Sampath Raj was arrested. 

As per reports, Sampath Raj who was aspiring to become Pulakeshinagar MLA candidate and wanted to dethrone MLA Akhanda Srinivasmurthy through a conspiracy. 

The controversial post by MLA's nephew came as a offering on silver plate for Sampath Raj and Co. 

On August 11 night, when the mob went berserk, Raj was sitting in one of his followers house about 100 meters from MLA house and was monitoring the arson and destruction. 

He is accused of staging the riots along with his friend AR Zakir and few SDPI leaders and supporters. 

MLA had also appealed the KPCC President DK Shivakumar and Congress to expel Sampath Raj accusing him of targeting his house and causing damage to Congress. 

Sampath Raj is currently lodged at the Parappana Agrahara jail and his bail plea has been rejected by the Karnataka high court.
