Bengaluru: COVID scare sweeps IT city as 71,266 cases reported in last 10 days from these zones

With a surge of over 11,000 single-day Covid cases, 43 deaths and over 70,000 cases in the last ten days from different zones in Bengaluru, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) ended up subjecting 1,01,250 persons for Covid tests on Saturday. Apart from intensifying tracing population from primary and secondary contacts, the civic body also vaccinated 40,128 persons above the age of 45 from different health centers.

With the second wave of Covid-19 sweeping the IT capital of India, here is zonal-wise break-up rising Covid cases from last ten days in Bengaluru.

Comprising nearly 40 wards Bengaluru's South Zone tops the list with 14,297 cases. With 11,434 cases, West Zone is in the second position. The East Zone that has more slums and has thickly populated areas, reported 11,129 cases. Similarly, Mahadevpura Zone that hosts a number of IT firms has recorded 10,131 cases. The Bengaluru's garment hub Bommanahalli Zone has 8,951 cases. Newly carved zones RR Nagar 6,801, Yelahanka 5,740 and Dasarahalli recorded 2,783 respectively.

The biggest concern for the civic agency is a single-day spike of 11,404 cases and 43 deaths on April 17.

Among positive cases, 5,484 are of young population aged between 20 to 40 and are mainly the supporting members of the family to generate income and are possible carriers of the virus as per the experts.

Following the spike in cases, the civic authorities intensified contact tracing, screening and testing activity and ended up subjecting 1,01,250 persons for Covid test and have advised all those are awaiting test results to remain in quarantine.

40,128 vaccinated under Phase 3

Meanwhile, across all primary health centers, government and some private hospitals and diagnostic labs in 198 BBMP wards, the civic agency has vaccinated 40,128 persons who are 45 years and above on April 17 and has intensified their information, education and communication to cover more population.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has also come up with a helpline through which a person can check for more information on Covid-19, its symptoms, treatment including the requirement of oxygen, plasma request and vaccination and Covid-19 hospital details.

Watch out for these symptoms

Patients with symptoms like fever, throat pain, nausea and body pain need to get the test done and if tested positive, then based on the severity of the infection, treatment is advised.

As per the BBMP Health Department, patients who are asymptomatic and under home isolation need to take Vitamin C 500 mg chewable tablets and BComplex forte with Zinc daily morning for ten days.

And for those who have mild symptoms, Paracetamol 650 mg twice a day, morning and night for five days, Azim 500 mg 1 tablet in the morning for three days, and CPM 4 mg in the night for three days is recommended
