Batla House encounter: Convicted terrorist Ariz Khan handed death sentence

The Delhi Police had sought a death sentence for the convicted Indian Mujahideen terrorist for killing Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and grievously injuring some other officers during the September 19, 2008 raid on a flat in Jamia Nagar's Batla House apartment.
During the Batla House raid, which was part of the police probe into the Delhi serial blasts case earlier that year, Inspector Sharma and members of his special cell were trapped by Ariz and two other terrorists.Â
In the ensuing gunbattle, Inspector Sharma and his colleagues sustained bullet injuries while Ariz managed to flee. Inspector Sharma succumbed to gunshot injuries.
Two suspected terrorists -- Atif Amin and Mohammed Sajid -- were killed in the Batla House encounter. Ariz was declared absconder and was finally nabbed in 2018 from Banbasa at the India-Nepal border.
In 2013, co-accused Shahzad was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
