According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 82 people survived the mishap which happened when two boats collided at Nimati Ghat around 4 pm. 

Seven people are still missing while one woman lost her life in Wednesday's boat mishap at Assam's Jorhat, the state disaster management authority has informed.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 82 people survived the mishap which happened when two boats collided at Nimati Ghat around 4 pm. 

A boat named MB Tipkai which was coming from Majuli collided with another boat -- Ma Kamala -- that was leaving from Nimati Ghat in the Jorhat district. Ma Kamala boat capsized in the Brahmaputra river on impact.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Parimita Das.

Eight people are undergoing treatment at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

Those rescued have been accommodated in a hotel.

No bodies were found when National Disaster Relief Force and State Disaster Relief Force personnel cut open the capsized boat.

The capsized boat was also had on board four-wheelers and two-wheelers.

Meanwhile, three Inland Water Transport department officials have been suspended following the incident.
