A total of 100 soldiers made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty to protect the country's integrity and sovereignty during the year 2020. 

Those killed in action include a commanding officer posted in Galwan Valley along with subedars, havildars and sepoys, following a violent face off with Chinese troops on June 15.

The skirmish erupted when Commanding Officer Col Santosh Babu found that Chinese troops failed to follow the de-escalation process which was agreed upon by both sides during their talks.

On the occasion of 73rd Army Day, the Indian Army released the names of fallen heroes in the year 2020.

Every year on January 15, the Army Day is celebrated to remember the day when the first Indian Army chief Field Marshal KM Cariappa took over as the first commander-in-chief of the Indian Army in 1949.
