Actor Rajinikanth exits politics, dissolves Rajini Makkal Mandram
Rajini Makkal Mandram will continue to be his fans association.
FollowActor Rajinikanth on Monday announced that he had no plans of entering politics in future and that he had dissolved his outfit, Rajini Makkal Mandram.
The organisation will continue to be his fans association. The decision came moments after the superstar said that he would hold consultations with the office bearers of Rajini Makkal Mandram to decide on the future political journey.
In a statement, Rajinikanth said, "I had thought of getting involved in politics and starting a political party. But the timing was such that it was not possible. I have no intention of getting involved in politics in the future. I am informing you that Rajini Makkal Mandram will function as a fan forum for people's benefit.
Political career that never really took off
The first time Rajinikanth announced that he would join politics was New Year's Eve in 2017. The actor got into consultations with his fans and eventually formed the Rajini Makkal Mandram. The forum was to pave the way for Rajinikanth's full-fledged entry into politics.
Even though anxiety kept growing among his fans, Rajinikanth kept delaying his formal entry. He kept dithering till December 2020 when he finally announced that his party will be launched in January 2021and that he will contest the Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
However, on December 29, 2020, months ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections, Rajinikanth once again took a step back and announced that he will not be entering politics, citing his health. He had then termed his hospitalisation as a warning given by God.
Rajinikanth was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad in December last year due to severe fluctuations in blood pressure and exhaustion.
The decision had then disappointed many of his fans who had been looking forward to starting his political journey.
