In yet another tryst with authorities, actor Deep Sidhu has now been booked by the Punjab Police for violating Covid-19 guidelines in Faridkot district.

An FIR has been registered under Sections 188, 269 of IPC & Epidemic Diseases Act against him for addressing a gathering in Jaitu and Matta village without mask, the police said.

He was earlier arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the violence during the farmers' tractor march on Republic Day.

Out on bail in the Red Fort violence cases, Sidhu, along with his supporters, reached the gurdwara at Jaitu and later went to Matta village in Faridkot on Sunday. Police said Sidhu addressed a large gathering at both the places, which was a violation of lockdown guidelines issued by the state government. “During investigation, we found that he was not even wearing mask,” police said in a statement.

Faridkot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Swarndeep Singh confirmed that a case had been registered under sections 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and the Disaster Management Act.

Deep Sidhu is accused by Delhi Police of instigating protesters to hoist Nishan Sahib and farmers’ flag on an empty flag post at Red Fort and on a dome on January 26.

Deep Sidhu was an aide of actor Sunny Deol when the latter contested from Gurdaspur seat in Punjab during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Deol, now a BJP MP, had distanced himself from Sidhu in December last year after he joined the farmers' agitation.
