Even as India reported 3,68,147 new Covid-19 cases and 3,417 deaths in the last 24 hours, leaders of 13 political parties have appealed to the central government to launch a free mass vaccination drive across the country.

In a joint statement, the leaders called upon the Centre to utilise the budgetary allocation of Rs 35,000 crore for the vaccination programme.

Those who undersigned the statement include Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, JD-S chief HD Deve Gowda, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, JMM chief Hemant Soren, DMK chief MK Stalin, BSP chief Mayawati, National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, CPI leader D Raja, CPI-M Secretary General Sitaram Yechury.

The leaders requested the Narendra Modi government that amid the uncontrollable surge of the pandemic across the country, the Centre must focus all attention on ensuring the uninterrupted flow of oxygen supply to all hospitals and health centres across the country.
