Will Twitter comply with new IT rules? Here's what India head's tweet suggests
The government bashed Twitter for not complying with its new rules. Delhi Police also paid a visit to Twitter's office in Delhi-NCR last week, but the offices were closed due to lockdown.
All social media apps except Twitter has accepted the new IT rules. A day after the backlash, Twitter's India Managing Director Manish Maheshwari took to his Twitter account to share a post saying, "It's gonna be hard, but hard doesn't mean impossible."
Twitter termed Delhi Police's act as 'intimidation tactics' and that they 'expressed concerns' about the safety of its employees in India. Later, the Ministry of Electronics denied everything by saying Twitter's statements are baseless, and they tried to defame the country. Delhi Police also mentioned that Twitter is not cooperating with the process.
Delhi Police said, as mentioned in GadgetsNow, "Its latest statements are devised to seek dubious sympathy when they themselves not only refuse to comply with the law of the land but also claim possession of material evidence but refuse to share it with legal authority duly recognised."
The IT Ministry said in a statement that many people use Twitter and Twitter representatives in India routinely claimed that they have no authority and people of India and they need to talk to Twitter Headquarter in the USA.
As reported, "The new IT rules that came into force on May 26 warrants a 'significant social media intermediary' (SSMI) to appoint a chief compliance officer, a resident grievance officer and a nodal contact person for round-the-clock coordination with law enforcement agencies."
