The accused, 27-year-old Ahmed Raheem is from Erode and was studying in Chennai.

According to a report by the Times of India, Raheem befriended a third year student of a dental college on Old Mahabalipuram Road, when he happened to visit the college. The duo fell in love with each other. They visited several places last year and took selfies.

"After a while, they had frequent arguments over the woman being friendly with other men in the college. Raheem opposed her talking even with her classmates," said a police officer. She decided to break up with him and did not respond to his calls. Raheem threatened to post her pictures online but she ignored him.

Three months back, the girl was shocked to see her pictures on social media along with abusive messages about her.

The girl’s family called Raheem over the matter. Raheem demanded Rs 5 lakh to delete the pictures. The girl’s family paid him Rs 2.5 lakh as that was all they could afford.

Following this, the girl's family lodged a police complaint. Raheem was called to the police station, where his family members apologised and agreed to keep him in control.

But Raheem was hatching a more sinister plan. He collected the girl’s relatives and friends’ numbers and sent the pictures to them on Whatsapp. Angered by this, the girl's family lodged a police complaint with Mambalam All Women Police Station. Police arrested him and remanded him in judicial custody.
