Tamil Nadu: Woman killed by in-law over dowry

FollowA doctor and his parents have been arrested for murdering his wife over dowry.
Elan Cheran and Divya from Mannargudi had got married in 2013. Elan Cheran, who is a doctor, was working in a private hospital in Trichy and the couple has a child who is two and a half years old.Â
On July 18, 2017, she was suspiciously found dead in her house. She had injuries. Hence her parents and relatives staged a road strike until 7 pm yesterday, July 19, demanding quick investigation. They filed a complaint at the police station.
Subsequently, Divya’s husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law were arrested under Dowry Prohibition Act.Â
Divya’s parents have given 100 sovereign gold, Rs 15 lakh for a car, Rs 30 lakh cash and 5-kilogram silver but the groom’s parents had been torturing Divya for the past one week demanding Rs 10 lakh more. They have justified their actions by stating that their son is a doctor.Â
Since Divya did not bring Rs 10 lakh, they beat her to death.
