There are close to 150 families in the Melaiyur village near Karaikal of which about 80 women have lost their husbands to alcohol addiction. Now, these women are struggling hard to bring up their children.
Right when the remaining women are losing the battle to save their husbands’ lives, many other alcohol shops are being opened targeting the customers here.
Losing all several men in the family to alcohol addiction the women are struggling hard even to meet their basic needs.
Hence the Melaiyur women have requested the Puducherry government to conduct a survey to find out the count of widows, to provide them with jobs based on their qualifications.
