In May 2016, an amount of Rs 570 Cr was seized from the three containers near Tirupur, just a few days before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. This money was reported to be stashed for distribution among voters. Meanwhile, the State Bank of India has claimed that it was their money.

In support of the petition filed by a DMK leader, the High Court ordered the CBI to probe the transport of Rs 570 Crore and investigate it. During the hearing, it was said that the money belongs to the RBI and it was caught on the way while being transported from Coimbatore to Andhra Pradesh

TKS Elangovan, who filed this case on behalf of DMK, said, “Due to the political pressure, CBI has been trying to hide the truth. From the beginning, the Reserve Bank of India did not seem to bother about this case.”
