Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a memorial for former Indian president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on July 27, 2017, in Pei Karumbu, Rameswaram.

It is also said that Chief Ministers, Governors and Ministers from other states would participate in this event.

This memorial is built in the Pei Karumbu village belonging to the Thangachimadam Panchayat. 

This project to construct a memorial and a knowledge centre was started with the allocated money of Rs 50 Cr. Now it is being reported that the memorial hall is nearing completion with just an amount of Rs 15 Cr.

Hence the opening ceremony is planned to be held on July 27, 2017. The memorial will be opened by the Prime Minister.

Protection Measures: 

The areas of Dhanushkodi, Pamban Bridge, Ramanathaswamy temple are being subjected to police surveillance.

A meeting was held in the Rameswaram Collector Office to discuss the protection measures. The roadside shops and advertisement hoardings in Manimandapam were removed. 

Modi will also open the newly constructed road from Mugundharayar Chatiram to Dhanushkodi Arichal Munai.

However, an official statement will be announced on July 11, 2017.
