'It's only the jokers who keep protesting against injustice'. This statement was said by Raju Murugan, the director of the film Joker. The film Cuckoo was his first directorial venture. He has built up his own territory in Tamil cinema. His stories are unique and it would always carry a social message. 

He hails from the village Abivirutheeswaram of Kodavasal in Thiruvarur district. His father is a Veterinary doctor. Raju Murugan started his journey as a journalist. Right from the beginning, his actions show that he is concerned about the society.

His series, Vattiyum Muthalum, which was written based on the incidents in his life, has become very popular. 

By working in Lingusamy’s Beema and Paiya, he has learnt the tactics of film making. He then made a beautiful movie portraying the love between two visually challenged persons.
He said, “I love persons who contribute to the society with the very little prosperity they have. I love the initiations and the initiators. They are the reason why the society gets to survive. They could look like jokers to someone but those jokers would always continue to fight the good battle.” 

His very statement is the plot of his film Joker. He wrote the script as he lived along with the people of Papparapatti, a village in Dharmapuri to draw inspiration. His dedication and love has bagged the 64th National Award for the movie.
