- Music maestro Ilayaraja has send legal notice to Balasubrahmanyam, Chitra and Charanlasubrahmanyam.
- Ilayaraja does not want these singers to perfom his songs.
- SPB told his fans that he will respond legally to the notice.
In a rather, shocking development that has left several fans of both SP Balasubrahmanyam and music maestro Ilayaraja confused, the latter has sent a legal notice to SP Balasubrahmanyam, Chitra and Charanlasubrahmanyam forbidding them from singing any of songs composed by the music director without his permission.
Balasubrahmanyam shared the news about the legal notice on his Facebook page. Balasubrahmanyam is currently on his SPB 50 tour.
Responding to the legal notice, SP Balasubrahmanyam said that he will abide by the copyright law. His tone, however, reflected that prominent singer was disappointed that Ilaiyaraaja did not tell him about the issue before the start of his US tour.
"Couple of days back, an Attorney representing Shri.Iliaya Raja, sent legal notices to me, Smt.Chithra, Charan, organisers of the concerts in different cities and the managements of all the venues, which says that we are not supposed to perform compositions of Shri.Iliayaraja without his permission, if so, it is breaking the copyright law and have to pay huge financial penalties and face legal action. Let me say, I am ignorant of these legalities.
"My Son designed this world tour and we kick started this SPB50 concert tour in August in Toronto, then we performed in Russia, Srilanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and did lots of shows in India too. I did not get any feelers from Shri. Raja's office at that time. I don't know why now when we started our US tour," SPB wrote on his Facebook page.
SPB in the comment section said that he will respond legally to the notice.
Balasubrahmanyam and Ilaiyaraaja have known each other for decades. Ilayaraja before coming to the film industry, used to play harmonium and guitar for SBP when he used to tour villages and districts for concerts.
