Actor Madhavan opens up about his choices of roles and why he is not jealous of his co stars

After Irudhi Suttru, Madhavan will now be seen in Vikram Vedha. This movie has two special facts. One is that it has been directed by Pushkar and Gayathri who are husband and wife. Another fact is that both Vijay Sethupathi and Madhavan, who are known for their attractive screen presence, are acting together.

An interview with Madhavan:

1) Tell us about the film Vikram Vedha.

“This movie can be said to have drawn inspiration from the Vikramathithan stories. I play an encounter specialist role in this movie, and Vijay Sethupathy is playing the role of a gangster. In the film Aaytha Ezhuthu I acted along with Suriya and Siddharth. We are not jealous while acting together instead it’s a great experience.”

2) Why do you prefer to work in women directors’ films?

“I don’t see them as women I see them as directors. Just because they are women, we can never underestimate their talents. They work harder than the male directors. Directors Sudha and Gayathiri behave calm and collected in the shooting spot. They demand work very politely. They are incredibly talented.”

3) Tell us about Vijay Sethupathy?

“He selects the story keeping in mind that it should promote him to the next stage. He delivers the dialogues in a very casual manner. His body language is enough to convey the message of the scene. I have learned a lot from him. During shoots, he would causally interact with his fans. He would eat the food they give.”

4) Are you saddened by the fact that you are earning less?

“Yes, I am sad. But wherever I go I am being appreciated and respected. With the talent I have, I can act only in one or two films. I have what I want to lead a life. What else one would need?”

5) Which language movie do you prefer?

Cinema is my life. I never choose movies according to the language. As long as I get a chance to act, I will keep acting.

6) Will you be able to do a film breaking the chocolate boy image?

The chocolate boy image was formed after I acted in Alaipayuthey film. I am working at the age of 48 because of the love of my fans. It is not about breaking the chocolate boy image. Instead, I make sure that I act differently in each film.

Tell us about Director Mani Ratnam?

“He is my godfather. He set my career towards the right path. No one could be like him. He is known for the different stories he has given. His movies such as Mouna Raagam, Thalapathy, Anjali are recognised for its uniqueness. No director can match up to him.”
