As the financial year is nearing end, the Union Finance Ministry, in a notification, has directed all the Income Tax offices across the country to remain open on the last Sunday of this month.

On the last day, July 31, over 6.5 million ITR were filed by 11 PM, according to the Income Tax Department.The taxpayers who missed their first deadline may file a late ITR. Before December 31 of the same year, it may be submitted. Therefore, December 31, 2022 is the deadline for submitting a delayed ITR this year.

If you miss the July 31 deadline, you still have until December 31, 2022, to file your return. However, you will be charged a late fee. It will also have some financial consequences.

ITRs must be submitted by July 31 for individual taxpayers who do not need their accounts audited.
