Yes, you heard it right. Abiding by the new rule that has come up, cricketers who has over 40 mm edges to their bats have to replace it with the new one by October 1, 2017.

According to the guidelines issued by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the cricketers should not play with the bats which are above 40mm.

As a part of this new rule, players like MS Dhoni, David Warner, Chris Gayle, and Kieron Pollard may have to replace their bats. This will also hamper their strategy of hammering bowlers.

However, as an exemption to this new rule, players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Steve Smith who use less than 40 mm edges need not buy new bats to their kit.

The thick edges have always been favoured batsmen to score big in short formats like T20s. There are players like Gayle and Warner who have used 50mm edges. Dhoni, who currently used 45mm edge, will have to cut his bat edge by five mm.
