Ravi Shastri at the forefront of the competition for Indias head coach

The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman will meet tomorrow, July 10, 2017, to go through the applications of the head coach for India.

While BCCI has received a total of 10 applications, it is said that Ravi Shastri is at the forefront of the competition.

The others are Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh, Lalchand Rajput, Lance Klusener, Rakesh Sharma (Oman national team coach), Phil Simmons and Upendranath Bramhachari (engineer with no cricketing background).

The CAC will interview six of the ten candidates. Shastri, Sehwag, Moody, Simmons, Pybus and Rajput have the best chances of being selected.

South African legend Lance Klusener may be kept on stand-by but has very little or no chance of getting the job.

The position has been vacant since the time Anil Kumble resigned over his differences with skipper Virat Kohli.

Shastri applied for the post after BCCI extended the deadline for acceptance of applications till July 9, 2017.

Kohli has openly supported Shastri in the past, and therefore Shastri will have the edge over others in getting selected.

The other candidate who has a fighting chance is Virender Sehwag. Although he is a brilliant player and can guide the current crop well, his coaching abilities have been questioned.
