Olympic loss pushes Saina Nehwal down to No 9

Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal, who failed to qualify for the knockout stage at the Rio Olympics, continued to face disappointment when she dropped four places in the rankings, according to the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) women's singles rankings, on Thursday.

India's only silver-medallist at the Rio 2016, PV Sindhu, meanwhile retained 10th place. Spain's Carolina Marin, who defeated her in the final, remains World No. 1.

The women's doubles duo of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa slipped in the ranking by four places and now are placed 26th after they failed to make it to the elimination stage in Rio.

On the other hand, Kidambi Srikanth whose fight ended in the quarter-final by China's Lin Dan has entered top 10 of men's singles ranking and is placed at No. 10. Dan meanwhile was stagnant at No. 3 and so was Rio's runner's up, Malaysian Lee Chong We at the pole position.

The Indian pair of the men's doubles, Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy kept their 21st spot.
