Portuguese football sensation Cristiano Ronaldo is still the top player in the world alongside Argentine superstar Lionel Messi. Aged 36, Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down, as he continues his goal-scoring run and keeps winning numerous titles to his name, besides staying in contention for Ballon d’Or.

Currently, Ronaldo is playing for Juventus, where he is having a decent time, at least in the domestic circuit. However, it has not been a success story for the European course with the Turin-based club.

Why?
Juventus was knocked out last week in the pre-quarters of the UEFA Champions League by FC Porto. Since then, rumours are high that Ronaldo could leave Turin at the end of the season, while multiple reports have suggested that he could be eyeing a return to his former club, Real Madrid or Manchester United.

Where to?
Although he has reportedly asked his agent Jorge Mendes to negotiate a possible return deal with either Madrid or United, a new report suggests that a return to England sounds dicey. According to a report by Express, United is not interested in re-signing its former superstar player, prioritising signing fresh young talent to bolster its squad.

Reason for denial
United CEO Ed Woodward had once expressed his desire to have Ronaldo back. However, it seems that with time the priorities have changed, as he looks to build a formidable squad under current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær, capable of challenging for the title, with United having a commendable season so far.

United’s current targets
According to some reports, United is eyeing Norwegian star, Erling Haaland, who Solskjær knows since his days in Molde. Also, the likes of Jadon Sancho, Declan Rice and Jules Kounde have been shortlisted.

If not United, then....
With United not being interested, Madrid is left as the only viable choice for Ronaldo. Furthermore, club manager Zinedine Zidane had expressed last week that he would love to have him back.

“Yes, it may be. We know Cristiano; we know the person he is and everything he has done here. But now, he’s a Juventus player and we must respect this. Now, let’s see what the future will be. I was lucky enough to coach him and he is very impressive. Right now, he’s helping Juventus,” Zidane had said.
