This 100-year-old gold winning grandma could probably outrun you

If the Grandma gold medalist cannot inspire you then nobody can

The amazing story of 100-year-old sprint runner Mehal Kaur is an inspiration to both the young and the old.

The word 'impossible' doesn't seem to be in her dictionary,  she is an entire century old, but took barely 1 minute and 30 seconds to dash to the finish line for a 100 metres race.

Kaur was the only female competitor and hence picked up a gold medal at the American Masters Game. The unique international tournament is for athletes over 30 years.

With Kaur setting an example that even at 100 her energy levels has no bounds, there were numerous athletes of age 70-80 years who stood near the finish line, cheering for the high-spirited lady. As soon as she ended the race, she stood with her hands in the air and immediately grabbed a bottle of water.

This isn't  Kaur's first heroic feat, she earlier won gold medals in javelin and shot put.

The 'Super Grandma' has so far won 20 gold medals at American Masters Game across the globe. When she is at her house in Chandigarh, she regularly goes on a 5km run, says a report by Times of India.

(The next time you are lazy to wake up and exercise, just picture her, maybe!)

Gurdev Singh, Kaur's son meanwhile was overjoyed with his mother's achievement. "Winning makes her happy," he said. "Now she is excited to go back to India and tell others about the number of medals she has won in the USA," Singh added.

Kaur began her career in athletics at an age of 93 and it was Singh who encouraged his mother into sports. "I asked her, 'You have no problem, no knee problem, no heart problem, you should start running,' " the 78-year-old  recalled.

The World Masters Game are played every four years with regional games in between. It is the first time the games are being played in North America, where the average age of athletes is 49. But, Kaur does not have the oldest foot in the 2016 tournament. Nihal Gill of Richmond, British Columbia is 101 years old.
