In a surprising announcement, BCCI has appointed Bharat Arun as team India’s full-time bowling coach with a two-year tenure.

The three-member committee appointed by Committee of Administrators (CoA) gave the nod for the appointment of Ravi Shastri’s pick today, July 18, 2017.

Sanjay Bangar and R Sridhar will continue in their roles as batting and fielding coach respectively, forming Ravi Shastri’s core team.

Earlier, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman had suggested Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan for batting and bowling coach respectively.

In a press meeting, Ravi Shastri said, “I was very clear in my mind what my core team would be. And this is my core team now.”

Reports say that the CoA was disappointed that CAC picked Dravid and Zaheer without consulting them and CoA chief Vinod Rai says the two names suggested were only recommendations.

In the press meet, BCCI Joint Secretary, Amitabh Choudhary, said, “Once Ravi was appointed the head coach he had to think about the responsibilities that come with that appointment. He has been very clear about his core team.”

“The BCCI can certainly bring in guys like Zaheer and Dravid as consultants from time to time. Their experience is invaluable. But as far as a full-time support is concerned, I will need to decide on it because it is me who will be working with them for next two years,” Shastri clarified on the role of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan.

Arun had replaced Joe Dawes in 2014 and was with the side till 2016 when Shastri was in the role of team director.
