Ravichandran Ashwin – we call him the spin wizard. One must know that he justifies the phrase every time his captain Virat Kohli throws the ball to him. The Tamil Nadu-born spinning ace achieved something that no one ever has been able to in the longest format of the game. Ashwin became the fastest bowler in the history of Tests to reach the landmark of 250 wickets on Sunday.

Ashwin has not impressed a great deal in Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand. But his achievements otherwise is astounding. His meteoric rise in Tests is being noticed by all. He is not done yet as every time he walks out in the middle, he seems to be hungry for more wickets.

The off-spinner had a dream run in 2016 as he had picked up 72 wickets and climbed to zenith of the ICC Test rankings. He was also adjudged the ICC Player of the Year and the ICC Test Player of the Year in 2016.

The feat which he achieved today was no joke. No other Indian bowler has picked up more than 200 wickets in 45 Tests. Harbhajan Singh had picked up 199 wickets after his 45 Test matches. He also became the only Indian bowler to reach 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 wickets faster than any other.

This is not all as there’s more to this record. Ashwin went past some serious legendary bowlers while he went on to achieve this landmark and inscribed his name in the history book.
