The motorsports fraternity has gone into a state of shock after former national racing champion Ashwin Sundar died in a horrific car accident in Chennai on Saturday. Ashwin’s wife, Niveditha also died in the accident.
The accident occurred in Chennai’s MRC Nagar as Ashwin’s BMW hit a tree and caught fire. Once the car caught fire, Ashwin and his wife could not unlock the doors and were charred to death in no time.
Ashwin has been a champion across different categories. He came into the racing picture after winning the U-17 MRF National Go-Karting Championship in 2002. He won it again in the very next year as well.
He made his debut for Formula FISSME and Formula LGB Series in 2004. In 2006, he became the Champion of Champions after racing the 115cc 4-stroke and 150cc 4-stroke titles. Ashwin also won the Formula Hyundai and Formula Swift categories in 2007 and he was the first driver to achieve this feat.
Ashwin Sundar had signed a contract with German racing team Ma Con Motorsport in 2008. After that, he also drove in the ADAC Championship.
Ashwin Sundar also lifted the MRF Formula 1600 International Challenge title in 2010 and 2011. In the very next year, Ashwin went on to win the Formula 4 National title as well. Sadly, Ashwin was just 27 and he had already added so many feathers to his hat. Imagine how many more titles he could have won if he would have been alive today!
