Poacher trampled to death wild elephants Kerala

Wild elephants killed a poacher at the forest near Thattekkad bird sanctuary in Kerala. Forest Department confirmed that the man belonged to a four-member gang that had ventured into the woods for poaching. Another person is severely injured in the wild elephant attack.

Forest officials said the gang entered the woods on Wednesday night but failed to notice the gang of elephants in their path. They got trapped in front of the pachyderms, and one of the elephants crushed Tony, 26, to death. "The gang was carrying loaded guns, and during the scuffle one of the unlicensed local-made guns went off and hit the thigh of the deceased," the officials said.

Basil, 30, who got injured in the incident was admitted to a private hospital in Aluva, and his condition is said to be serious. The incident came to light only when two other gang members, Shajith and Anish, informed about the incident to their friends and relatives.

A case has been registered against the gang under provisions of Wildlife Protection Act. Hunting equipment, knives, weapons, torches and bags were discovered from the forest, and Anish and Shajith are absconding, the Forest officials said.
