Left Hartal in Kerala on Monday against demonetization

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Kerala on Monday to protest against demonetization. But the call for hartal has invited criticism from different corners as it would mean more trouble for the people who are already burdened by the currency ban.

After the CPM secretariat  on Thursday, Vaikom Viswan, the convener of the front stated that the hartal would be a warning to the Centre's apathy towards the cooperative sector in the state. Besides essential services, banks have also been exempted from the stir.

Calling for a national stir on Monday, the CPM Politburo had directed the party state committees to observe hartal in states. The hartal is part of the national agitation of Left parties against demonetization.

Meanwhile, the Congress criticised the Left for putting more burden on people in the name of hartal. The BJP slammed the hartal as 'irresponsible' and 'anti-national.'
