Young CPM legislator from Kannur, AN Shamseer was awarded three months’ imprisonment for threatening to attack police during a students’ march at Kannur in 2012.

 

The District Judicial First Class Magistrate, found the CPM leader guilty under the section 117 (C) of the Kerala Police Act. The case pertains to a public speech delivered by Shamseer when he was the leader of the youth brigade of the CPM. While addressing a protest march took out by the Students Federation of India in 2012, Shamseer allegedly warned the police that they would be beaten up if they dared to charge the students.

 

Kannur Town SI Sanal Kumar filed the complaint against the CPM leader and a case was slapped under various sections of Kerala Police Act four years back. Shamseer, who was elected to the State Assembly from Thalassery, is planning to approach the High Court against the trial court verdict.
