Mary Kom's boxing academy now has a kitchen and a dining hall
The new infrastructure was developed with support from Goodyear, one of the world's largest tyre companies.
Mary Kom Boxing Academy in Imphal has received new sports infrastructure support from Goodyear India.
The academy now has a kitchen and dining hall, thanks to a CSR initiative by one of the world's largest tyre companies.
The new infrastructure was handed over to the Olympic bronze medallist on Thursday by Francis Marwein, regional director of SAI NERC Imphal and Guwahati.
Earlier in 2018-19, Goodyear had supported the construction of a boxing ring and arena.
Thanking Goodyear for their support to her academy, MC Mary Kom said: "Dreams are made real when we are determined to and with the support from others. My dream to set up a centre of sporting excellence will not be realized without support from the people, Government and corporate sectors. This support of sports infrastructure from Goodyear is a motivation for me, my team and our athletes most importantly."
Reaching out to athletes training in her academy, the Padma Vibhushan awardee said: "I was never fortunate enough when I started my boxing career and these kinds of facilities and dining hall were far away. Therefore you need to make the best use of these entire infrastructures and be a champion by achieving more than what I have done."
