Cycle parking centres across Bengaluru in six months
The first phase of the project will cover Vidhana Soudha, MG Road, HSR Layout, Koramangala, and Banaswadi
Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in discussion with Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), has decided on introducing 271 cycle parking spaces in Bengaluru.
A tender facilitating the construction of these cycle parking centres is expected to cost Rs 7.72 crore. The parking centres were classified based on a study submitted by DULT. This project by the BBMP is expected to encourage people to use bicycles to travel through short distances.
According to reports, the parking centres will be spread over an area of 28 sq km. The first phase of the project will cover Vidhana Soudha, MG Road, HSR Layout, Koramangala, and Banaswadi. These parking centres are expected to be ready within six months.
According to the Deccan Chronicle, a senior BBMP official said, “The proposed system is a fully automated and bicycles will be parked using dock-less technology. The system allows users to take the cycle from a parking hub, use it as desired and return it either to the same or any other parking hub."
According to reports, this plan would help in reducing traffic in the city. Based on the support of the DULT, the BBMP would begin the construction work for three different types of bicycle parking centres.
