Tumakuru: A history-sheeter, who had eloped with the niece of a Karnataka MLA, was hacked to death in Tumakuru on Tuesday.

The victim, Manu, was a driver and a rowdy wanted in more than 10 cases. He was found in a pool of blood at Koratagere in Tumakuru district, Karnataka, at 8 AM on January 8. He had eloped with JD(S) MLA K Gopalaiah's niece 40 days ago and the couple was residing in Tumakuru.

32-year-old Manu is a resident of Kamaksipalya in Bengaluru and is wanted in more than 10 cases in Bengaluru City, Ramanagara, Bengaluru Rural and Tumakuru districts. Manu is also said to have been running a DVD shop.

Manu was working as a driver for Basavaraju, also known as Gooli Basava, who is the brother of Gopalaiah.

Basavaraju's 18-year-old daughter went missing on October 22, 2018, along with Manu. A missing complaint was filed on October 25.

Manu had reportedly married the MLA's niece in a temple and were reported to be living in Tumakuru. However, they were not traced by Basavaraju's men after several searches. In fact, the couple had released multiple videos on Facebook stating that their lives were in danger.

In one of the videos, Manu claimed that he had not kidnapped the girl, but they were in love. And the girl too ascertained that she had come with him at her own will.

Manu had said that they were facing life threats from the girl's brother Kiran.
