FollowIn a setback for the Kerala government, the Supreme Court on Monday issued an order fixing Rs 11 lakh as the fee for admission to MBBS courses in all self-financing colleges in the state.
The SC verdict says that Rs 5 lakh has to be paid as cash and the remaining Rs 6 lakh as bank guarantee. With the admission process for the year progressing in Thiruvananthapuram, the order has come as a major blow to the state government and several MBBS aspirants.

The apex court has also directed the college managements to open separate accounts to deposit these amounts. The bank guarantee can be submitted within 15 days of completing admission.
The SC verdict also requires the students who have already taken admission for Rs 5 lakh - the fee earlier fixed by the state government - last week to arrange for the rest of the amount within the next 15 days.

However, the Christian Management Association have stated that the colleges under them would continue with the Rs 5 lakh fee structure as admission fee for this year, despite the SC order.
