4,55,906 regular and 2,588 private students had appeared for the exams this year. The exam was conducted in March at 2,933 centres in the state and nine centres in Lakshadweep and the Middle East.

The SSLC board and the education minister had found themselves embroiled in some controversy this year. The mathematics exam held on March 20 had to be scraped after the question paper resembled the questions from a model exam held at a private institution.
