Three minors who slipped out of their homes in their parents' car to get the thrill of drag race ended up losing one of their friends in the wee hours of Sunday morning on elevated Hosur Road flyover. The other two have sustained critical injuries. While the dead has been identified as Arfan Saleem (17), the injured are Srinivas Govindaraju (16) and Anirudh Krishnamurthy (16).
It is reported that the trio left their respective homes on the pretext of discussing some college work. While Arfan and Anirudh left their homes in HSR Layout, Srinivas joined them from Devarachikkanahalli. According to Madivala police, Arfan was driving his father's Skoda car, Srinivas in Innova and Aniruddh was driving the Maruti Swift car, reports Kannada Prabha.
It is reported that the cars were being driven over 150 km per hour. As they were racing against each other Srinivas' Innova car grazed against Arfan's Skoda car and Anirudh's Swift car. As a result, Arfan's car toppled thrice before coming to a screeching halt. Arfan sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot, it is reported. Srinivas who was driving Innova could control the wheels and rammed into a milk tanker coming from opposite direction. However, he was saved after the airbag opened up. But the car has been mangled beyond recognition. While Aniruddh managed to bring his car under control and halted it a few meters away from his friends' mangled vehicles.

Police said that the trio would sneak out from their homes - on Weekends - in their parents' vehicles and would shuttle from Silk Board to Electronics City and Roopena Agrahara to race against each other.
Arfan was a second PU student, and the other two were in first year PU. Arfan's father has a business in HSR Layout, while the parents of other two are IT, professionals.
It is reported that the parents of the trio feigned ignorance of their children taking away the cars. But the police believe that the parents were aware of their children's drag race adventures earlier. Madivala traffic police have taken Srinivas and Aniruddh into custody along with the parents of all three.
