A vacant house in Hongasandra, on Begur Main Road adjacent to a jewellery shop was rented by two strangers with the sole purpose of digging a hole in the wall to loot the shop. Devaram, the jewellery shop owner has lodged a complaint with the Bommanahalli police station in this regard.

Devaram was running the jewellery shop since 14 years in the building. A house adjacent to the shop was vacant and 15 days ago two strangers paid an advance of Rs 25,000 and obtained the key from the owner.  

On Thursday night they dug a hole in thewall, entered the shop and looted gold and silver articles worth Rs 12 lakhs.  They had tried to break open the almirah which had 2 kg silver articles and more gold jewellery. However they failed to break it open, left it half way and went away with the loot.

Next day when Devaram arrived in the morning and opened the shop he found out about the theft. Immediately he informed the police, reported Kannada Prabha.

The jewellery shop had a CCTV camera but the miscreants had removed the DVR and taken it away with them. The South East police are investigating. Sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts were brought to the spot.

DCP Boralingaiah said it is the handiwork of the two strangers who rented the house. Their mobile phones are switched off.  Two teams have been formed and the culprits will be arrested soon, he said, reported Kannada Prabha.
